the carrot cake conversations

Movie Synopsis

The Carrot Cake Conversations is the story of four strangers, who find themselves stranded in Singapore, two days before Christmas and how they find companionship over a plate of carrot cake and a conversation.

The story follows the journey of Kate, a failed American actress, who’s in transit in Singapore for one night, on her way to New Zealand to set up her dream Café.

Kate meets Daniel, a dishevelled businessman who recently caught his wife cheating on him, Matthew, a rich property mogul who finds himself at the crossroads of his life, and Ruth, a prostitute who longs to be Singapore’s first blues singer.

In their conversations, they talk about love, life, loss, carrot cake, Singapore being alone, Christmas, their dreams, their fears, their hopes, and at the end of one night, because of their conversation with a complete stranger, they become different people.

This story seeks to prove the possibility that a conversation can change everything and that sometimes in life, all we have to do is talk.

To be honest, Geoff and myself came out of the movie feeling a bit disorientated since obviously we didn't make an effort to read up on the synopsis. The movie, was rather patchy and it was difficult for us to connect with the story based on what we watched. It could have been better say if the director had linked up the storyline better as opposed to trying to bring the message across in events or actions which aren't too obvious. Poor dearie was trying to sort out the movie with me over dinner, yes, we are planning a trip to visit The Carrot Cake Cafe in New Zealand! LOL....

I suppose I have to credit Adrian Pang for having put in a great performance in the movie. The most touching scene came from him as well, he cried after he read his wife's X'mas card to him. The deceased wife expressed her love for him still and wondered what went wrong in their marriage and they had stopped talking and the marriage went from bad to impossible for both to be in the same room for more than 5 minutes.

So, hell yeah, let's talk and break down some barriers, cos we don't have forever! Stop being a foetus!
